It’s been said that there’s a book waiting in everyone. Or otherwise stated, there’s a story you have to tell. eBooks are downloadable documents, usually in PDF format, on just about any subject matter you can imagine. Is there an eBook waiting to be written from you?

Many people think of eBooks as a way to make extra money. If you can write a good enough eBook, yes you can charge money for it. But that’s not the only way to use eBooks to build your home based business. Consider giving them away for free!

A lot of people just don’t think they can write to a sellable level. If you are one of those people, consider writing a shorter eBook (in the 20 to 30 page length) and giving it away. Most people are ok with giving their name and email to you in exchange for something free. After all, they have no money to lose on the deal.

And you can use this opportunity to get them on your email list. Have the eBook file hosted on a website with a capture form for this purpose. And make sure you have a set of informative email messages to follow up on their download of your eBook. This will keep them interested in what you are offering.

You can put this eBook link in your forum and article signatures (as well as your blog comments) to accelerate your sign ups. Fairly soon, you will have a nice list built up. Having an email list is one of the most valuable assets you have online and many people don’t know how to start getting one built. The free eBook method is a win win for everyone: you get your list built up and the recipients get good information.
