Pick Your Social Networks Wisely
There is a lot of buzz about Social networking these days. Facebook, Ning, Twitter, Linked In, and countless others. A lot of experts will tell you that you must jump on the social network bandwagon to be successful. While it’s always a good idea to keep your options open, don’t get completely wrapped up in social networks.
There is this feeling that social networking can help automate your business and that’s true. But only if you strike a balance. Pick a social network that works for you and stick with that. Visit the network on a regular basis, but don’t spend so much time there that other parts of your business suffer.
Some things don’t really automate well. If your home based business requires interpersonal communications for example, don’t expect the social networks to do that entirely for you. At some point you might actually like to meet prospects or speak to them on the phone.
I also think that if you limit your time online there is less chance for you to be side tracked and distracted by short term diversions. These diversions can take time away from your core business functions.
So pick your social network wisely so you don’t drown in sea of tweets or get lost in a forest of track-backs.
