Online business forums are a great way to connect with other home based business owners. Most online forums are free to join and as such, they bring in some bad behavior. Here are 3 bad ‘forum habits’ to avoid.

Advertising Tread – A “Thread” is a new subject in a forum. Don’t start a new thread that just sounds like an ad. This will be a guarantee that you’ll be labeled as a spammer. They’re usually very obvious because they ad no value except to promote something.

Advertising in Response – Likewise, keep your responses to forum threads in the context of the subject matter of the thread. Don’t just post a short blurb like “I agree” followed by your link. Join the conversation, become part of it and add some value to it.

Bickering – Forums can bring out heated discussions and they can bring out name calling with some people. Don’t participate when the discussion degrades to petty arguments. There are some people who simply have to get the last word no matter how low the conversation goes. So there is no point in getting involved in petty bickering and insults.

Be professional in your forum behavior and add value to the discussions. Over time, people will begin to respect you and that can bring you clients, customers, downline, or even business partners.
