A lot of people are afraid of Google Adwords because they’ve heard stories of click fraud and large amounts of lost money. Or maybe they’re just intimidated by Adwords because of its complexities.

While it’s true that Google Adwords isn’t as simple to navigate as it used to be, it’s still a wonderful advertising option for a home based business; with one caveat. Your Adwords campaigns must be carefully managed. By ‘carefully managed’ I mean pay lots of attention to it. If you start a Google Adwords campaign, you must be willing to make time to manage the campaign every day. At the very least, look at the statistics each day.

When someone complains to me they’ve spent too much money on Google Adwords, I often find they haven’t paid close enough attention to the campaign. An Adwords campaign is not something you can just “set and forget”. “Manage and Tweak” is a better phrase to consider when you approach the subject of starting an Adwords campaign. Set and forget can be waste of time or worse, get you a runaway Adwords bill. You won’t like large surprises like that. If you manage your campaigns daily, you can pause them (or certain keywords within them) if it looks like the bill is getting out of hand or the keywords are not performing.

So if you want to use Google Adwords to advertise your home based business, make sure you allocate enough time to effectively manage your campaign.
