5 Tips for a Superior Landing Page

Under Internet Marketing

One way to bring in site visitors to your home based business is with a customized landing page. This can be used with an advertising campaign to introduce your product or your service to new site visitors. The purpose of the landing page is get the visitor to take some further action such as signing up for a newsletter or buying a product. Here are some tips for creating a outstanding landing page.

Keep it Focused – What is the goal of the landing page? Keep the landing page focused on that specific goal and don’t stray. If the goal is to just get them signed up for a newsletter for example, don’t bother trying to use the page to sell a product. Focus on the benefits of the newsletter, not the product (you can do that later).

Right Amount of Copy – Use the right amount of copy on your landing page. What is the ‘right amount’? That would depend on what your landing page is trying to accomplish. If you are asking the site visitor to buy something, you might need more copy because they’ll need some convincing. On the other hand, if you are asking the site visitor to sign up for a newsletter, a shorter amount of copy might do.

Short Paragraphs – Don’t use long winded paragraphs. This makes the site looks busy and hard to read for many people. If you have a long winded paragraph, break it up into several smaller paragraphs. This creates white space and makes your web copy easier to read.

Ask Some Questions – Questions can be engaging. Just as you can keep a person engaged in verbal conversation by asking them questions, you can use questions in your copy. For example, “What is the best way to attract repeat customers?” might be a section heading that could compel your reader to continue reading. Why? Because they want the answer to the question!

Personalize your Landing Page – Personalizing your landing page can create trust where there is none. This can be accomplished with a photo or a video. If you use a video, I don’t recommend setting it to auto-play. Let the site visitor play it if and when they desire. People are increasingly reluctant to business with ‘faceless entities’ on the web so put your mug out there and get personal!

A landing page has the job of receiving inbound traffic and directing the site visitors to take some further action. Keeping your landing page compelling and focused can help ensure your site visitors will take that further action and not click away. Do you have any landing page tips to add?
